Judges have shortlisted Alistair Corbett as a finalist for Bricklaying Apprentice of the Year at The ABC Awards 2024.
With just a few weeks to go, until we find out who wins, we thought it would be great to showcase each apprentice, and celebrate their achievements.

What does Bricklaying mean to you and why did you choose to become a Bricklayer?
“Before I left school, I helped my Dad build a single story extension, and whilst doing this picked up a lot of skills. I realised bricklaying was the trade for me as I felt it was very rewarding seeing the building taking shape before you. This encouraged me to find out more, and I started researching all the different types of bonds and decorative features you can achieve. I was totally enthralled, and I knew I had to find an apprenticeship”
“Alistair has been a dream to deal with. The practical skill came so naturally to him, and he has a thirst for knowledge which is wonderful to see. He asks questions, and enquires about new sites which have varying degrees of complex brickwork features. The most important aspect is, that he is a nice person and gets on with everyone he works with. “Alistair always wants to find out further information and expand his knowledge beyond what is required for his L2 apprenticeship. He takes part in maths and English realising the benefits of expanding his knowledge in this area to further his career. Alistair is motivated and wants to complete tasks, like constructing arches, which are not seen onsite very often.
Alistair helps other apprentices, taking the time to recognise when others are struggling and willing them to complete tasks. He listens and takes onboard advice to improve his knowledge and skill.” Emily Humphrey, Salutem
