Four Brickwork Contractors have been selected to feature as finalists in The Commitment to Training and Development category at The ABC Awards 2024 on Friday night, but only one of them will walk away with the trophy.
Which one will it be….?
All four have given detailed accounts of their training throughout 2023, and explained how this has benefitted their clients and businesses in the strive for success and growth.
Currently ranked 15th in the country of SME Apprenticeship Employers, Roe Brickwork pride themselves in being one of the best brickwork subbies for apprenticeship employment in the South East.
Based in Kent, Managing Director, Luke Chilcott works very closely with East Kent and Folkstone College and attends meetings to discuss the development of ongoing apprentices, and to give guidance and advice to students looking to start a career in the construction industry. Roe Brickwork donate materials and assist the students with their practical lessons strengthening skills for the next generation.
Swift Brickwork are dedicated to enhancing the skills of their employees, and engage with The ABC Assessment Centre regularly to up-skill operatives on-site in areas such as Installing fire Breaks & Barriers, Masonry Support Installation and Specialist DPC Training.
Swift Brickwork, amongst their impressive training matrix, support careers for school-leavers and invest time to attend school fairs to talk to under 16’s about careers in construction.
CARA Brickwork Directors Joey and Neil Allen, both started their journeys in the construction industry as bricklaying apprentices and so understand the importance of giving young people a chance to progress, and have carried this ethos into their current business model.
CARA Brickwork have championed social value, and have been instrumental in providing The ABC with introductions to The Ministry of Justice, where programmes have now been set-up at Thorn Cross Prison to train and rehabilitate ex-inmates.
Lee Marley have had a cracking year for apprenticeship training, and currently have 63 Bricklaying apprentices across their sites. Lee Marley Group approach their training holistically, and teach the apprentice more than the brickwork skills and knowledge set by the standard, but how good communication matters and the importance of manners, and how they present themselves.
Lee Marley Brickwork are in the Third year of their internal ‘Apprentice of the Month’ Award which celebrates apprentices for good attendance, high level of work produced, and improvement.
